Students and teachers of the Amrita Vidyalayam schools at Puthiyakavu and Thalassery are on cloud nine as teams from their schools were selected to present their projects at Fablearn Asia 2020 International Conference held from January 10th to 12th at King Mongkut’s University in Bangkok, Thailand.
The FabLearn conferences bring together key influencers and thought-leaders from around the world in education, policy-making, academia, design, research, and maker communities to learn, present, and discuss digital fabrication in education, the maker culture, hands-on learning, and instructional tools.
Four students from Amrita Vidyalayam Puthiyakavu Atal Tinkering Labs attended the conference. Projects titled “My experiences with making Electronic Steam Boats, Lego Robots and a Helper Robot” by Thejus Shyamlal of Std. 5, and “Taking off with Biodegradable Tensegrities: An Eco-friendly Emergency Medical Delivery Solution” by Madhumati Anand, Vyshakh Ajith and Sanjula S. from Std. 9 were presented by the teams. The students have designed a drone-like aircraft without a human aboard to be used in emergencies to deliver medical equipment and medicines to those in need.
The project developed by 9th grade students, Goutham Mohanraj and Ashok Kumar along with team members Tharak C.M., Rathul Mahesh and Arjun Santhosh from Amrita Vidyalayam Thalassery was an affordable paralysis treatment system called Neuro-ExoHeal which would improve the medical rehabilitation process. Among the 200 million people globally who live with some type of disability or the other, there are a large number of people with motor disabilities. Hence rehabilitation becomes a primary challenge for the global goal of improving the quality of life of patients, said the students. The project was made in connection with Atal Tinkering Lab research work, and they made their presentation on opening day.
All the students were extremely proud to represent India at the conference, besides getting the opportunity to connect with and attend lectures by eminent international faculty. The conference organizers were highly impressed by their work and have provided a complete waiver of their registration fees.
